...it's time to brake out the ruler (or calipers)! Below are some examples of how to measure your shock and mounting hardware on your bike. A quick side note- it's extremely important to measure in Millimeters as that will yield the most accurate results.

*On all shocks other than those with the largest stroke in the eye-to-eye range, there will be varying amounts of exposed stanchion. For this reason, you can't simply just measure the exposed stanchion of the shock and will have to measure the actual stroke of the shock. To do this, simply remove all air from the shock, slide the O-Ring to the air-can, and compress it fully until you have reached the bottom of it's travel (this is done easiest on the bike so you might want to do this prior to removing from the shock) and then measure the distance from air-can to the o-ring. Very few bikes will accept a shock without any mounting hardware so it's essential to get the proper hardware to fit your frame! In order to find the proper sizing of your bike you will need to know measure both the width and the diameter of the hole. For example: M8 X 22.2 hardware has a hole diameter of 8mm and a width of 22.2mm.

Hardware is brand specific (unless you swap bushings) so if you get a Fox/Marzocchi rear shock be sure to get Fox hardware. This also means that if you are replacing your stock Fox Shock (like a DPX2) Marzocchi Bomber CR, you can totally just reuse your old hardware as long as it's not damaged!

Don't have hardware? No Problem! Just measure the width between the mount point of the frame and the diameter of the bolt!
